I need to sit with this one awhile. An intentional Cumming's reference (feelings first), or no? It's my favorite of his poems. The flow of it once you've mastered the syntax in recitation is just incredible.
Certainly intentional. First (and only) of his I memorized and, of what I've read, my favourite as well. It really is a triumphantly perfect poem. Much of his poetry I love a handful of phrases or lines intensely, but struggle with caring about the rest. Afraid I am picky like that when it comes to most poets, even the greats.
