“Stars fall every now and then, the holes have to be filled up.”
—”One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich”—A. Solzhenitsyn
How the full moon falls from the horizon Like a pair of eyes upon your face. Dawns break heart-like, so predictable And almost selfish-seeming like a tide seems Once you know your chart. Though, for my part, waking up surprised and soaked Is common in the day or dark or dawn; The sounds of breaking having dulled and lulled My senses as the soft sand sank Beneath my tired form 'til dreaming drew me down. Can you remember midnight on the beach, Moonlight setting stars back in the sockets? Mid-sentence silences which came and went With cautious-creature curiosity— Those small bright eyes that stared Down from the bluff above us vanishing? I can't recall, at all, our conversations...
